Head of Corporate Banking
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Relationship Managers (RMs), providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure they meet their goals.
- Lead business development efforts to attract and retain high-value corporate clients in the Puerto Rican market.
- Guide bankers to identify market opportunities and trends in Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) lending to develop innovative banking solutions and stay competitive.
- Represent the bank at industry events, conferences, and community forums.
- Oversee the loan pipeline and approval process to ensure timely closing of deals.
- Approve or recommend credit applications, ensuring they meet the bank’s risk appetite and lending policies.
- Ensure the corporate banking department’s strategic direction aligns with the bank’s overall business strategy.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as loan growth, portfolio quality, and profitability.
- Ensure strict adherence to all internal policies and local and federal banking regulations.
- Collaborate with the Market President on Corporate Banking team activities.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 15+ years of experience in corporate lending and vast experience in a management role.
- Market Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the domestic market and industry trends.
- Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate favorable terms while maintaining strong client relationships.
- Sales Acumen: Experience developing and executing sales strategies, including market and competitive analysis, and sales forecasting.
- Leadership: Strong leader who inspires and motivates teams, fosters a positive culture, delegates effectively, and resolves conflicts.
- Bilingual: Must be fluent in both English and Spanish (written and verbal).
- Technical Skills: Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Banking Regulations: Solid understanding of banking regulations from entities such as the OCC, FDIC, FRB, and FFIEC.
